Subjective mapping of Dusseldorf

May 2019 & October 2020

On the invitation of the Forum Freies Theater (FFT) in Dusseldorf we organised a one-day collective workshop to map the cultural and traffic junction of ‘Worringer platz’. The workshop was part of their festival on ‘claiming commons spaces’ and provided a lively visual dialogue on the different realities the square intersected with, and offered artistic tools to address urban commons and mapping narratives.

Subsequently – after participating in the first workshop – the grass-root initiative ‘Round Table Oberbilk’ invited us for a second workshop to map the inner city quarter Oberbilk, lying just behind Dusseldorf main station. Together with a diverse and inclusive group of 15 creative social trainers we experimented with ways to capture the local narratives in visual mappings, infographics and photo series. Under the guidance of Subjective Editions and a local graphic designer, the participants mapped local narratives from the margins. Especially, they practiced methods of subjective mappings to be taken further in their own social and research based practices.
